The 2016-2020 Immediate Strategic Objectives

Our meetings, mission, vision, philosophy and goal priorities have resulted in the following Strategic Objectives to be followed from 2016-2020.

Strategic Plan

  • In consultation with ORIA, raise an agreed amount of funding for vision research
  • In consultation with RANZCO’s International Development Committee, raise funds for agreed additional international development projects
  • In consultation with RANZCO’s Indigenous Committee, raise funds for agreed additional indigenous health projects
  • In consultation with RANZCO, raise funds for education and training programs
  • Continued growth and diversification of income sources
  • Efficient and strategic use of funds


  • Develop a clear identity and story that sets the Eye Surgeons’ Foundation apart from competitors
  • Position the Eye Surgeons’ Foundation as the charity for the experts in eye health and research - the cleverest minds attacking the big problems
  • Define the Foundation’s customer segments and develop value propositions for each of them
  • Develop and implement the marketing and communications strategy to reach and engage our segments
  • Publicly re-launch the Foundation


  • Ensure that all three organisations have a positive outlook towards each partner organisation and to play a key role in ensuring cooperation between the organisations
  • In conjunction with RANZCO and the ORIA build the Foundation’s reputation and relationship with RANZCO Fellows and in turn their patients
  • Build an effective supporter database of Fellows and patients
  • Develop an ongoing, relevant communications program focusing on education, success stories and fundraising
  • Continue to build external relationships by collaborating with other organisations involved with the delivery of eye health care nationally and internationally
  • Implement a solid membership program to attract members to the Foundation


  • In consultation with RANZCO and ORIA, develop public eye health programs with a view to raising awareness of eye health issues and develop a public fundraising channel
  • Assist RANZCO and ORIA in increasing awareness among the general public about the position and role ophthalmologists play in eye care


  • Continue to improve and develop systems to facilitate growth
  • Improve income and expenditure outcomes year-on-year
  • Efficient and strategic use of funds
  • Continue to utilise business systems that provide access to information, and ensure transparency and efficiency
  • Maintain effective governance, management structures and processes
  • Maintain and continuously evaluate integrated risk management processes
  • Maintain a highly committed and capable Board and supported workforce
  • Continuous internal and external evaluation of efforts against appropriate and agreed success measures



  • Raised more than $24.5 million for vision initiatives since 2003.
  • Our partnership with ORIA has supported more than 202 eye health programs since inception.
  • Raised more than $9.1 million specifically for vision research.
  • Helped more than 83,000 patients with sight-saving procedures across Asia Pacific since 2005.
  • Screened and treated more than 6,000 Aboriginals across the Kimberley/Pilbara regions since 2010.
